SHACKLETONS TIGER FISHING LODGE | LOCATION

Shackletons Tiger Fishing Lodge is situated on the upper Zambezi River near the village of Mwandi (meaning place of ‘plenty fish’) in southwestern Zambia. The lodge is approximately 150km west of Livingstone (Zambia), 90 km west of Kazungula Ferry (Zambia / Botswana border) and 55km east of Sesheke (Zambia / Namibia border). Shackletons can be easily reached by air and road.

Getting to Shackletons – By Air

British Airways ,South African Airways and Kulula offer daily flights between O.R. Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Livingstone International Airport (Livingstone, Zambia). 1Time, offers daily flights except for Tuesdays and Saturdays. Approximate flying time is 1 hour 40 minutes.

Zambezi Airlines flies direct from Cape Town to Livingstone on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The return flights are on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Approximate flying time is 3 hours 10 minutes.

Vehicle Transfers

Shackletons provides vehicle transfers from:

  • Livingstone International Airport (Livingstone, Zambia) – approximately 1 hour 45 minutes
  • Kazungula Ferry (Zambia / Botswana border) – approximately 1 hour.
  • Sesheke or Katima Mulilo (Zambia / Namibia border) – approximately
    45 minutes.

The vehicle transfers pass through lush teak and Mopani forests and the Zambezi floodplain vegetation.

Getting to Shackletons - By Road

Shackletons is easily accessible on the Livingstone / Sesheke road (M10), a newly tarred road that connects Livingstone (Zambia) and Sesheke (Zambia).

The turn-off to Shackletons is approximately 150 km west of Livingstone, 90km west of Kazungula Ferry, 6 km west of the turnoff to Mwandi, or 55 km east of Sesheke. There is a 3 ½ km sand road that leads down to Shackletons on the upper Zambezi River. This road is suitable for sedan vehicles all year round.

Ports of entry into Zambia (by road):

  • From South Africa: Kazungula Ferry (Botswana).
  • From Zimbabwe: Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe).
  • From Namibia: Katima Mulilo (Namibia).
